Volunteer Profile: Rachel Cauvin

February's featured volunteer is Rachel Cauvin. Rachel has been volunteering with GLWD for almost 4 years, and, in her own words, "has loved every minute of it!" Rachel first learned of the organization when she saw our holiday catalogue at work. She instantly became intrigued with the work that GLWD does for the community and knew right away that she had to be part of it all. The rest, they say, is history, and after 215 amazing hours of volunteer work, Rachel is "just as excited to be here as the first day she stepped in the building."

Rachel's co-volunteers also rave about her time spent in the kitchen. Peter Marrero, the Head Evening Chef here at GLWD, remarked, "Rachel is so efficient with salad pack-out that sometimes I fear for my job!" He continued, "Besides, how could you not love her with that smile?"

Beyond the kitchen, Rachel also enjoys taking part in the annual "Race to Deliver" in Central Park. Although she was not able to participate in the 2000 race, Every previous year she has tried to raise more and more money. This year Rachel is attempting $750. That is $200 more than she raised two years ago! We all hope she reaches her goal!!

As for why Rachel continues to be so dedicated to God's Love We Deliver, she could only say, "I hope that one day soon there will not be anyone in need of our help and that we can put this terrible disease behind us. I know that the work I do here is helping, no matter how small the difference." Well, Rachel, we are all right there behind you on that one. The entire staff of God's Love We Deliver, thanks you, Rachel. Our clients and the community depend on dedicated people like you! If you would like to meet the woman behind the smile, please stop by the kitchen on a Tuesday evening where you will find Rachel doing her part to make the world a better place.
