Volunteer Profile: Richard, David and Russell Fink

Spring is finally here and Pam, Seth, Vivienne, David and Jeremy hope that all of our volunteers feel the love in the air at God's Love We Deliver. We were so excited that we couldn't just pick one volunteer to highlight in April. Instead, we picked three! Richard Fink and his two sons, David and Russell are three of our best salad-packout stars, and you can find either one, two or three of them in the kitchen every Thursday evening.

Although "The Fink Men" used to spend Thursday evenings together at a local restaurant, David instead decided to join God's Love We Deliver because "he felt blessed with a strong, loving family and wanted to give something back to the community as a way of sharing his good fortune." Well, it was only a few short months before Richard and Russell got lonely and decided that "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." The sons are not able to attend quite as often as their Dad because of their jobs, and they appreciate the flexibility that the kitchen schedule provides. According to Richard and his sons, they continue to volunteer because "the people at GLWD are the warmest, friendliest, and most giving people in the world, and besides, it is the best way we can spend a Thursday evening and you don't have to sober up in the morning!!!"

Volunteering at God's Love We Deliver is definitely a family affair for the Finks. Although you may see only Richard, David and Russell in the kitchen, the rest of the family can be seen volunteering elsewhere. Not only does Richard's wife Jeri walk in the Race to Deliver every year, but also Russell's girlfriend Ann delivers meals on the vans on Fridays. Everyone has always said that the GLWD community feels like one big happy family, and now we know why!

It is exactly that tightly-knit family spirit that endears the Finks to so many people. Leonard Moss, another Thursday night salad-packer, raves about Richard and his sons. He said, "They have such a loving relationship and are more than just father and sons; They are buddies." Leonard also said that he admires the Fink family because, "they are always so generous and it is easy to see that they really love life."

Well, we think it is safe to say that the entire GLWD community admires the Finks' love for life and for each other. It is always Spring when the Finks are around!

PS - David and Russell both want to point out that as a result of their newly acquired kitchen skills, they would make great husbands to all the single ladies out there!!! They are cute like their dad too!
