Bandanna jokes that on his first visit to the GLWD kitchen, he made the innocent mistake of wearing shorts and was almost scared away permanently when one of the cooks sternly reminding him of the dress code. But the kitchen was crowded with friendly people and Bandanna felt that "it was a great way to end the day." This is exactly what keeps him coming back. He cherishes the friendships that have developed, not only in the kitchen itself, but also during the extracurricular outings that the Wednesday nighters organize, such as evenings at the movies and dinner. One of Bandanna's favorite experiences at GLWD was decorating the gingerbread houses that are delivered to our clients at Christmas. He had the opportunity to bring his niece and nephew to the event, who "had a blast!" The children had so much fun decorating that they wanted to take their houses home with them. Bandanna found it a challenge explaining philanthropy to the children, but was glad for the opportunity to teach them the value of giving. Recently, Bandanna's health has kept him out of the kitchen, and at times, he receives our meals. He appreciates the special attention that GLWD gives to both its volunteers and clients. He especially thanks the organization for the birthday card he receives every year, and, as a client, the birthday cake. Well, Bandanna, on behalf of everyone at GLWD, we salute you and your dedication to this organization. You have given us much more than we could ever give you!
